NAGPUR, July 2017:
Athletes and runners from all over India are gearing up for the second edition of 0 Mile Marathon to be organised in the city on Sunday, 5th November 2017.
0 Mile Marathon in 2016 saw participants from as far as Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. The youngest runner was 8 years of age, and the eldest participant was 75. We also saw participation from International athletes making it a Global event. The First edition of 0 Mile Nagpur Marathon held on 14 February 2016 was highly appreciated by the athletes and sponsors alike. KCS Solar Power, United India Insurance, Bajoria’s E-Rickshaw, SVC Bank and Zweller were the sponsors for the last year’s event. The route covered the Zero Milestone of India, the lush greenery of Seminary Hills, Futala Lake and the Walkers’ Road.
The second edition will be organised on Sunday, 5th November 2017. With the shift in dates from February to November, there’s also a slight change in the race categories this year. The race categories and routes are as follows:
- 21.1km ZERO MILE RUN is a half marathon. It will pass through the the Zero Milestone, the lush greenery of Seminary Hills, Futala Lake and the Walkers’ Road.
- 10 Km ENDURANCE RUN will cover VIP Road, the lush greenery of Seminary Hills and Futala Lake.
- 5 Km DREAM RUN will cover Walkers’ Road and Seminary Hills’ Road.
There will cash prizes awarded to the top 3 finishers in the 21.1km, 10km, and 5km races. Each race has an allocated cut-off time which will decide the winners.
Speaking about the development, a veteran marathon runner Dr Diwakar Bhoyar, aged 72 years and gold medal winner in various marathons, says, “I am looking forward to participate in the Second Edition of 0 Mile Nagpur Marathon this year. I run 10 km daily and it has become my passion and elixir of life. It’s a good exercise. It not only increases your life span, but also prevents you from chronic diseases”. Dr Bhoyar was a podium finisher of the 10.5km race of the 0 Mile Nagpur Marathon 2016, in his age category.
For Mr Prashant Gurjar, an avid runner and founder of Orange City Runners’ Club, the three letter word RUN connotes JOSH. “Move away from your comfort zone, Do It and Must Go for It”, he says to the runners. “We are blessed to have the beautiful 3 hours in the morning. What is important is first to get out of that protective shell and start making a positive change in your life. Be it running, swimming or cycling, Get-out-of-that-static-state and get-going”, says Mr Gurjar.
